Paper Submission

We invite and encourage you to submit proposals for Contributed Papers and Poster presentations at ESAM08  Markets and Models: Policy frontiers in the AWH Phillips tradition.

Authors are encouraged to submit papers across the broad spectrum of theoretical and applied research in economics and in econometrics.  The meeting is open to all economists including those who are not currently members of the Econometric Society or the New Zealand Association of Economists (NZAE).

Authors may submit more than one paper, however limitations on programme space may mean priority will given to different presenters/authors.  There is no limitation on the number of accepted co-authored papers.

Papers that cannot be accommodated in Contributed Paper sessions will be considered for Poster Paper sessions if the authors agree and if the reviewers recommend this option.

Submission Process

Extended Abstract for Review

Authors are asked to prepare an extended abstract (500-700 words) for the review process.  Word documents are preferred.

The online abstract system will automatically save your abstract as a PDF - please do not upload your document in PDF format.

This abstract must clearly define what will be presented in the final manuscript or poster.  The extended abstract will not be published.  This can be uploaded at the completion of the abstract submission form. The deadline for this is 16 February 2008.

Abstract for Publication

Authors are also asked to provide a short abstract (250 words) for publication in the conference abstract handbook.  This can be typed in within the abstract form.  The deadline for this is 30 May 2008.

Submitted proposals will be subject to a review process.  The same acceptance standards will be applied to all submissions, irrespective of the session type (contributed paper or poster).   They will be reviewed by selected experts who will consider the originality of the work, clarity of exposition, methodological rigor and/or policy relevance.  Authors will be informed about the acceptance of papers in April 2008.

Information on preparing your paper and poster will be emailed with your notification of paper or poster acceptance.

To submit a paper as a contributed paper or poster, please click here.

You will be required to enter your details on the online form then upload your extended abstract.

Access Key Code

The system will generate an automatic reply to authors once a paper is submitted.  This reply email will contain an Access Key that gives authors access to the Speakers' Zone where authors can upload their extended abstract at a later date, amend their abstract, type in their abstract for publication and then submit their full paper if their submission is accepted.

Please note that, unlike Conference Maker, authors will not be able to view abstracts other than those they have submitted.  Authors will, however, be able to amend their abstracts up until 16 February 2008.

A PDF of abstracts submitted by presentation topic will be available on this page from November 2007 and will be updated on a monthly basis until the commencement of the conference.

Full Paper

The full paper is required by 30th May 2008.  This can be uploaded at any time in the Speakers' Zone.

The final paper has no length limitation, but less than 25 pages is advised.  Each paper must have a header page, please click here for a sample.  Word documents are preferred.

The system will automatically convert your paper to a PDF – please do not upload a PDF document.

Contributed Sessions

Accepted papers will be presented in sessions with several other papers on a related topic.

Posters

Posters will be on display for the duration of the conference in the Renouf Foyer where delegates will meet for morning/afternoon teas and lunches. There will also at least one Author Attended Poster Sessions during the conference program.

Competitions and Prizes

Authors will be asked to indicate if they would like to be considered for the Jan Whitwell Prize or Poster prizes.  Please go to the Competition page for more information.

Publication of Proceedings

Authors will have the opportunity to submit accepted conference papers for potential publication in several journals.

Economica will publish a selection of keynote presentations either as a special issue or as a group within a regular issue.

All other paper submitters are invited to indicate whether they wish their paper to be considered for publication in one of the following journals.
North American Journal of Economics and Finance (special issue)
New Zealand Economic Papers (special or regular issue)
Journal of Economic Surveys (regular issues)

Where authors of an accepted conference paper indicate that they wish their paper to be considered by one of these journals, the conference organisers will forward the accepted paper to the editors for consideration.  All subsequent communications regarding possible publication will then be between the journal and the authors.

Authors should indicate no more than one journal for consideration; all publication decisions rest solely with the journal editors.
